Sunday Guides, Fall 2025: Wine Tasting in the Douro Valley, Portugal

Hello and welcome to the delightful fall issue of Sunday Guides! We are thrilled to have you here as we dive into a world filled with travel tips, must-see sights, mouthwatering culinary experiences, scrumptious recipes, chic fashion trends, and local favorites from our vibrant "Out and About with Paris House" section. While travel is our central theme, our goal is to ignite your wanderlust and offer something special for everyone to enjoy. Don't forget that you can find a printed version of the guide on our website for easy access.

As I set out on a new adventure, I can’t help but feel enchanted by the familiar beauty of Portugal. The Sunday Guides in this stunning country are not only about places to explore, they are also a heartfelt journey through my own memories from past travels. Every destination highlighted is like a chapter in my travel diary, filled with amazing stories from around the globe, and I'm excited to share my reflections with you, dear readers!

In this issue, get ready to explore the breathtaking Douro Valley, the charming city of Aveiro, the colorful Costa Nova, the spiritual site of Fatima, and the bustling streets of Lisbon. We will also whisk you away to the dreamy towns of Sintra and Cascais, along with a trip to the majestic Cabo da Roca.

My first trip to Portugal was in 2018, and I had the pleasure of returning in May 2024 when I discovered the enchanting Douro Valley. Oh, the food! Traditional bacalhau, sardine season, and the iconic pastel de nata were simply heavenly! I stayed at a lovely Quinta surrounded by picturesque vineyards, with stunning architecture beautifully adorned with blue and white tiles. The warm-hearted locals were always eager to share smiles and stories, truly enriching my experience, while the richness of the wine made every moment even more unforgettable.

This adventure was partially a solo trip; when I arrived, I didn’t know a soul! Yet, I departed with a heart full of warmth and wonderful memories of all the friendly faces I met. It turned out to be more than just a trip. It was a profound experience of self-discovery. The world is filled with kind souls, and often, the most memorable travel experiences come from unexpected connections. For instance, I remember a local guide in the Douro Valley who shared fascinating stories about the region's history and culture, making the trip even more enriching.

This issue shines a spotlight on Portugal, especially Porto, the magnificent Douro Valley, Fatima, and Costa Nova. The Port wine and local cuisine are genuinely exceptional. With stunning panoramic views, serene boat rides on the river, and encounters with some of the warmest people you'll ever meet, Portugal is sure to capture your heart and draw you back time and again. The unique experiences in Portugal, from its rich history to its vibrant culture, await you, promising excitement and intrigue.

Fall truly brings us the simple pleasures we often long for. Picture this: a cozy wool sweater in autumn’s warm hues on a crisp morning, the sweet aroma of apple orchards, pumpkins scattered about, and picnics on tartan blankets against a backdrop of colorful mountains and shimmering lakes. Halloween costumes and leisurely drives through vibrant fall foliage are timeless delights that add joy to this beautiful season. It really is a breathtaking time of year!

For all you travel lovers, autumn is an exhilarating season! As the crowds begin to dwindle in Europe, the weather turns pleasantly cooler, inviting exploration. The beaches remain inviting, the sea is warm, and numerous sights and activities await discovery.

And for our party enthusiasts, we’ve packed this issue with floral themes and exciting events, alongside an Autumn beauty section showcasing the chicest nail designs, flawless skincare tips, and glossy hair ideas. Plus, we've curated a selection of fabulous Fall fashion looks that transition effortlessly from New York City to New England and beyond.

From delightful books to delectable apple desserts and so much more, we hope you enjoy this issue as much as we enjoyed putting it all together! We are deeply grateful for your continued support and readership. Your presence in our journey is invaluable, and we thank you for being a part of it! Together, we'll continue to explore the world and all its wonders.

Get ready for more thrilling adventures in upcoming issues! We have a dreamy getaway planned that you absolutely won’t want to miss. We’re bursting with excitement to share details about this enchanting destination and the unique experiences we have lined up for you. Stay tuned for more and get ready to be thrilled!

We look forward to embarking on this journey with you.

Sunday Guides, Summer 2025: Travel, Style, Food & Lifestyle Inspiration

I begin writing the editor's letter in the Adirondack Mountains on a sunny day surrounded by mountains that meet the shimmering lake water seamlessly. At the same time, boats sail by with a wave in our direction with that relaxed summer feeling and nostalgia. I grew up in this beautiful part of the world, and it is a peaceful place to write. Although this issue is not about upstate New York, we do have a fantastic movie and articles on the Adirondacks and surrounding areas on our website.

In this magazine, we highlight travel to Cancún, Mexico, and its surrounding areas, particularly Isla Mujeres. There is also a shopping excursion in Giverny, France, at a designer outlet, the Louvre Couture exhibit, and our insider's tips on how to secure the very hard-to-get ticket and more in Paris.

From a unique spin on the classic Mille Feuille recipe to a mesmerizing flower video, this issue is packed with diverse and captivating content that will surely pique your interest.

As a longtime fashion stylist for editorials, no issue would be complete without our 'Paris House boutique,' a virtual fashion destination showcasing stylish looks for all your travels, both near and far.

We have months of photo shoots, floral designs, and travel ahead for the magazine, and it will all be shared in our exclusive 'Sunday Guides,' a curated collection of articles and features to inspire you.

If you're interested in having an itinerary planned for you, you can find more details on our website.

I, along with my team, wish you a delightful summer and, hopefully, a chance to slow down and make memories with your loved ones.

Sunday Guides, May 2025: Spring Travel & Lifestyle Guide 2025, Cancún, Barbados, Dubai & More

I begin writing our editor's letter at 30,000 feet in the sky as Spring's cherry blossoms, daffodils, and NYC fade in the distance below. We are off on a business and pleasure adventure. I am visiting and writing about two unique hotels in Cancun, Riviera Maya and Isla Mujeres, each with their own distinct charm and allure, which we will feature in an upcoming issue.

Step into the pages of our Sunday Guides Spring issue and be transported around the world to lands both near and far. In this issue, we are immersed in a storybook garden, larger than life and beyond one's wildest dreams, The Dubai Miracle Garden, a breathtaking oasis of color and beauty.

Explore Barbados through our photos and highlights and be inspired to book a trip or revisit this stunning island. We shared our must-go-to restaurants and more!

We are excited to be in the garden surrounded by spring flowers, cherry blossoms, lilacs, and peonies, which perfume the air. In this issue, we have included the link to our extensive outline of the Beginners Guide to Planting a Rose Garden.

Paris House, a beautiful event space in a garden on five idyllic acres, has hosted multiple photoshoots this Spring, including Motherhood shoots, fashion and styling for a company's brand, and a Marie Antoinette photo shoot. Our location is very popular, along with our Hillside studio, an urban space located 20 minutes from NYC. You can book our spaces for your next event through us directly or through our Peerspace listing.

Paris House Beauty has launched, and it's beautiful! This perfume, inspired by our travels around the world, is a celebration of our love for touring flower gardens both near and far. All the details are in this issue. We have an exciting fashion shoot at the Mansion in May, traveling to more stunning destinations and delicious recipes.

We hope Spring's revival of the gardens and vibrant sunshine inspire you to throw a party, take a day trip, or plan something lovely.

Paris Café Tour

Paris France Cafe’s

Article & Travel Photography, Michele Rosenthal

For this week's Sunday Guides & Article we will take a Paris Café tour. Many of which you may have heard of or been to. Perhaps there will be a few new ones to add to your travel plans!

Café Amourette in Passy features lovely views just a quick walk from the Eiffel Tower. I love the smoked salmon with creme fraiche and the cappuccino was very good. If you are looking for a quiet area far from crowds and something close to a landmark; this is perfect!

Café Aéro is another lovely café in the Passy neighborhood. It is where the locals go and everyone seems to know each other. It’s not fancy and might need a little makeover in my opinion. However, the delicious croissants, coffee, and kind staff elevates it to a wonderful eatery. We will continue to go when we are in Passy. I miss my mornings there and seeing my friend Mimi.

Le Café Marly is one of the most iconic and gorgeous Parisian cafes! With fabulous views of the Louvre and Pyramids, along with fantastic service. Don’t miss the Chocolat Viennois, it is so delicious! The chocolate and whipped cream is out of this world and its rich chocolate flavor and whipped Chantilly cream are sophisticated and not overly sweet. We also enjoy ordering cheese and wine and relaxing here.

Le Fumoir Cafe is a gem and a close walk from the Louvre. I adored the interior decor and the white wine was delicious. Pop into the nearby Bo & Mie Boulangerie Creative for breads and croissants. The feta olive bread and the passion fruit donut-croissants were so yummy!!!

Le Passy Café is another delightful café in Passy! It was so lovely having a cup of coffee there. The flaky buttery croissants and this beautiful view of the Tour Eiffel are unforgettable moments.

Café Fleurus is a charming petit café by Le Jardin du Luxembourg. The Lillet with tonic water, lemon and ice was so refreshing on a warm summer day.

Les Deux Magots is one of the most famous spots to people-watch, eat, drink coffee, and then shop in the elegant Saint Germain de Prés

Café de Flore is located right next door to Les Deux Magots is another very famous Café in Paris.

Items We Travel With And Fall Foliage Looks to Inspire You On Your Next Adventure.

We are curating a beautiful floral design class in Paris this December complete with chocolat chaud, croissants, light refreshments! There will be a small group trip to Versailles & an antique shopping trip available too! This is perfect for solo travelers, small groups, beginner - advanced floral designers! Details coming soon! Only a few spots will be available. Email us!

Mayflower Inn & Spa

By, Michele Rosenthal

Mayflower Inn & Spa Auberge Resorts Collection

Calm, peaceful, beautiful, exquisite — just a few words you’ll use to describe the lush natural wonder of Mayflower Inn & Spa in Washington, Connecticut. Whether you’re on a ski trip, a hike, a shopping spree, or simply stopping by, Mayflower is full of rich history, integrity, and serenity, you’ll want to visit every season.

Situated on dozens of acres, this inn and spa welcomes you into a secret world, a getaway that only exists in New England. The Mayflower is a renowned resort that was converted from a school in 1920. Drawing upon the natural scenery, historic nearby towns, and stunning eclectic designs, beauty is everywhere you look. Recently design icon Celerie Kemble revitalized the interiors of the inn, combining historic Victorian architecture and 19th century artwork with a modern freshness. It’s safe to say your room and the Shakespeare garden alone will wow you.

The Inn also has countless amenities. Are you in the mood for a massage or facial? Step into THE WELL to get lost in your wildest dreams, receiving treatment from only the best professionals. You can also receive holistic treatments from doctors and health practitioners. After you feel revitalized and ready to go, take a swing on the tennis courts. When we stayed, my husband got lost in the game as I relaxed in the spa.

Next, stop by The Garden Room to have carefully crafted, farm-fresh meals from expert chefs. The openness and country atmosphere will feel like a breath of fresh air. When your stay comes to an end, pop into the shop The Huntress. You’ll find gorgeous, high-quality clothes and sentimental souvenirs to remember for a lifetime. Then, make your way through the quaint village, where you can shop for one of a kind finds to bring home as a beautiful reminder of your journey to New England. From snowfall and spring renewal to summer activities and fall foliage, Mayflower Inn & Spa has an abundance of refreshing activities, peaceful musings, and beauty to fulfill your ever need.

Blueberry Lemon Thyme cake

Asparagus Gruyere Tart baked in a warm buttery puff pastry, is the perfect addition to a brunch table. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Rollout thawed puff pastry- we love Dafur. Gently press in 2 rectangular tart pans & sprinkle shredded Gruyere cheese over. Then add your asparagus on top. Make sure to remove the bottom woody parts of asparagus. Sprinkle lightly with sea salt & fresh ground pepper. Option you can, if you like, use a pastry brush and brush a thin layer of Dijon mustard over the puff pastry, before adding the cheese. I prefer it without but it does add a nice flavor. Bake for 20 minutes OR until golden and bubble

The Perfect Sunday Brunch addition to your buffet! Blueberry Lemon Thyme Pound Cake or Asparagus Gruyere Tart; we love our cakes and pastries!

After you leave the dreamy Mayflower Inn, why not make a beautiful and delicious cake to take the memories home with you! no worries if baking is not your thing! have your local grocery store make you 3 round vanilla cakes or use a box cake mix. If you enjoy baking there are many delicious recipes on line! Barefoot Contessa has several. Then layer with a homemade Chantilly whipped cream, fresh strawberries and top with edible flowers such as pansies.

Imagine wearing this spectacular dress while enjoying a cocktail in the Shakespeare Garden!
