I begin writing the November editor's letter at 35,000 feet in the sky, leaving behind the vibrant Autumn hues in New York City and the Northeast for a new adventure on the west coast in Palm Springs, California (that will remain a story for another day). Our November issue will highlight a recent trip to Rhodes, Greece, and an Autumn fashion photoshoot in New York City starring one of our favorite dancers. There are recipes for delicious hors d'oeuvres and side dishes to bring to your stylishly decorated Thanksgiving table. Our favorite fashionable outfits elevate the dinner, an "Out And About With Paris House" to inspire local day trips and more!

Let's begin with how it all came to be and why I traveled solo to Rhodes, Greece. In October 2023, while visiting our son Oliver for parents' weekend at Vassar College, we walked into The Three Arts, a tiny bookstore in Poughkeepsie, New York. Among the books piled to the ceiling and tiny aisles, there it was, right in front of my eyes: One Hundred Saturdays: Stella Levi and The Search for a Lost World by Michael Frank. The cover illustrations, feeling somewhat Marc Chagall in style, caught my eye. I was unfamiliar with the story of Rhodes and the Sephardic Jews and certainly had never heard of Stella Levi, who I believe is still alive and living in NYC at 100+ years of age. This is not a story of politics, nor is it about religion. It is about the human spirit and how life can change in a moment; how those left behind can find the strength to not only move forward but do so with impact, joy, resilience, grace and go on to share their story with the hope it will help somehow. I have been a voracious reader my entire life and can attest that a book can change your life or, at the very least, send you on a profoundly beautiful adventure.

Rhodes was one of the most gratifying solo trips I have ever taken. There was so much beauty everywhere:

  • Architecture was like nothing I had ever seen.

  • Birthday celebrations with new Greek and German friends.

  • The gorgeous beaches.

  • Hikes up to ancient ruins.

  • Delicious food.

I miss Greece already and long to return to Rhodes. We hope you enjoy this beautiful issue and wish you all the best during the holiday season.
