This doesn't always go over well with his friends and classmates - especially when his loud croaking gets the class in trouble. Through all his troubles, his best friend Stella is always there for him.
This is a story about being different than everyone else - and accepting the differences of others. It shows that sometimes our unique traits and qualities can save the day and make us true heroes in the end.
Workhorse

This book started out slowly for me; however, around page 100, it picked up the pace and pulled me in. As a magazine editor, I was intrigued by the inner workings of a Manhattan fashion magazine—even if the idea terrifies me, to be honest. Turning to the characters, I found each unlikable for distinct reasons: some were ruthlessly ambitious, others manipulative or self-absorbed, which, while adding complexity and realism, made it difficult to connect with them. If pressed, I might say I disliked the protagonist slightly less than the others because her internal struggles felt somewhat more genuine, but none truly won me over. Ultimately, it's a more venomous read than The Devil Wears Prada can ever dream of being.

Although readers may hope for a happy ending, the story shows that real life is often unresolved or bittersweet, reminding us that resolution is not guaranteed.
Trad Wife

This novel is one of my favorite books from recent years. My main argument: it stands out by satirizing social media influencers and unexpectedly blending horror and gore. Together, these elements transform a familiar narrative into an immersive, unforgettable experience. From the start, the book mocks the curated lives of online influencers, blurring the line between authenticity and performance. As horror creatures and chaos emerge, it keeps readers hooked, as it did for my husband and me when I read him chapters each night. The mixture of satire and genre surprise made it hard to put down. Although I don't usually read books with scary creatures or gore, Saratoga Schaefer's sharp mockery of influencer culture and clever writing made this unforgettable.

My Husband

From the first page to the last sentence, My Husband is a captivating read. Its compelling narrative and well-crafted prose make it a true page-turner.
It’s a story where love and obsession intersect, creating a false reality and leaving us readers in a state of shock. This leaves you guessing until the last sentence, which makes you think way beyond after the book is closed.
If you’re not afraid to be a little disturbed, then this is the book for you. This book comes highly recommended by the Northshire bookstore staff selections in Manchester, Vermont, and they were spot on. It is indeed a page turner.

The Durells in Corfu
PBS has wonderful shows that are a bit more mainstream. We highly recommend The Durells if you have not already watched it. The series has gorgeous settings overlooking the Ionian Sea, which transported us back to Corfu, one of our favorite islands in Greece. It’s lovely.

It was fun and fast paced, filled with well descriptive fashion in a vibrant impulsive Los Angeles with the ubiquitous sex, drugs and rock n roll! I think you will enjoy it too.

Sirens
I'll be honest: I binge-watched this primarily for the Nantucket decor, fabulous kitchen, and beach location. I now want to paint my center island green! I will watch anything that Julianne Moore stars in, as she is one of my favorite actresses. It was silly, fun, and something to watch where you don't have to think; you follow along in a bit of confusion as it's all very ludicrous. The ending, unfortunately, was a letdown, and I'm sure many of you will agree. But upon reflection, I get it!

What to Watch:
Babygirl
starring Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickenson
There is a lot to unpack here; beginning with this romantic drama, it did not land the way I had hoped. I was left with a lot of unanswered questions. I am a huge fan of Nicole Kidman; she went all in, as usual. Dismissing all the nonsense of Women over 50's sexuality showed us that women want what they want, and she wanted her 20-something gorgeous, cocky, mysterious intern. What I loved about this movie, besides the fact that Harrison Dickenson is HOT, and the rave scene was even HOTTER, was the beautiful cinematography and Nicole's uninhibited, sexual, and maternal performance. I was left wanting to know more about her intern and would have liked to have seen more of the conversions as they navigated through this dangerous liaison.
Anora
After watching Anora, I could understand why it swept the Oscars. The acting was truly exceptional. This film may not be suitable for everyone, especially children, but it offers a raw and realistic portrayal of life as an escort. It's not a typical Cinderella Story or Pretty Woman ending, but it's a deeply moving and thought-provoking journey. I don't want to give too much away, but I can promise you that it's a film that will stay with you long after the credits roll.
The White Lotus
The White Lotus is a show that's worth watching for the fashion alone. But it's the layered story and dynamic characters that truly make it a must-see. It's wild, no doubt, but it's also poignant, sad, and fun. If you're looking for a show that will keep you on the edge of your seat, The White Lotus is it.

One Hundred Saturdays

In October 2023, while visiting our son Oliver for parents’ weekend at Vassar College, we walked into The Three Arts, a tiny bookstore in Poughkeepsie, New York. Among the books piled to the ceiling and tiny aisles, there it was, right in front of my eyes: One Hundred Saturdays: Stella Levi and The Search for a Lost World by Michael Frank. The cover illustrations, feeling somewhat Marc Chagall in style, caught my eye. I was unfamiliar with the story of Rhodes and the Sephardic Jews and certainly had never heard of Stella Levi, who I believe is still alive and living in NYC at 100+ years of age. This is not a story of politics, nor is it about religion. It is about the human spirit and how life can change in a moment; how those left behind can find the strength to not only move forward but do so with impact, joy, resilience, grace and go on to share their story with the hope it will help somehow. I have been a voracious reader my entire life and can attest that a book can change your life or, at the very least, send you on a profoundly beautiful adventure.

I went into this book thinking it would be a salacious, scandalous memoir of Stephen’s days as a Park Avenue doorman. I wanted all the juicy insider details of the residents of this prestigious address. However, there was very little of that, and I felt the book moved slowly. I did think it was fun to hear about all the drama amongst the doormen. Who would have thought it was so cutthroat!? It left me intrigued!
Martha: The Cookbook

No matter one’s feelings about the iconic Martha Stewart (I love her), this documentary is riveting. It follows her from the start to the height of her career as the doyenne of elegant living and becoming the first self-made female billionaire in America to her catastrophic fall from grace. It’s sad how people take joy in knocking someone off the pedestal they crafted with their very own hands and how the boys on Wall Street set out to destroy her. However, in Martha’s style, she came back with a vengeance and, at the age of 83, continues to influence us in all the right ways, and “That’s a Good Thing!”
The Coin

I couldn’t put this book down, as Off-The-Rails as it is. There are many funny moments delivered with a dry sense of humor. The narrator is completely and unapologetically unhinged. She’s struggling to keep her head above water and we learn why with each sentence Zaher writes.
Dinner For Two

I recently started reading Dinner For Two and am enjoying the short stories. Although as of now I’m not as fully enthralled as I was with Rules of Civility (a favorite of mine). However, I am pretty sure Eve, the character from Rules of Civility, makes an appearance in the novella part of this book- so in the end perhaps this will be my favorite book of Amor Towels?!!! Either way it is very good. Towle’s prose is sophisticated, his writing is unique and crafted with razor sharp precision.
Binge Watch
I’ll be the first to admit, I rarely watch “TV” so it takes me a long time to catch up with what “everyone” else has already seemingly watched. To the best of my knowledge I have never watched a reality TV show, a housewives or anything of that genre. I do however on occasion like to escape into a quality binge watching adventure. It took me nearly 3 months to complete season two of House of Dragons. I'm still watching Bridgerton and have only seen one episode of season 4, Emily in Paris. I prefer to read and with my work and travel schedule there isn't enough time. As I write this I am currently obsessed with Nobody Wants This.
The Perfect Couple
To be honest I watched this only for the set design, gorgeous interiors, ocean views on Newport Rhode Island and of course Nicole Kidman. It was fun to see how the filthy rich live and ultimately self-destruct.
Nobody Wants This
Above I mentioned how I am too busy for TV and that is still very true. However- I put everything aside, including Sunday Guides and my French lessons as I could not stop watching this rom com! This is how a couple should behave, no drama, no games, a lot of communication and great chemistry. I’ll leave it at that as to not spoil anything! It’s so much fun!!!
