Maine’s beautiful and unique landscape entices people from all over the world to come visit. From its rugged cliffs and rocky terrain overlooking the Atlantic ocean to the most delicious lobster rolls in the world, there is something for everyone to enjoy. In this issue, we explore Kennebunkport, The Kennebunk’s, Ogunquit, Perkins Cove and Portland. You can stop for a day at the scenic Marginal Way at Perkins Cove, a quintessential fisherman’s village resembling a postcard that has come to life, or take quiet drives along the ocean with watercolor sunsets or head to a more hip and bustling town such as Portland. Enjoy fine dining in Kennebunkport’s superb restaurants, scenic drives along the ocean with views of Walker’s point the Bush Family compound. It is easy to see why Maine is like no other place in the world.

Our family and friends have been vacationing there for many years, so we have an insiders view of this beautiful state. In this article, we will highlight our favorite hotels, restaurants, shops, beach clubs, theaters, and more to help you plan the perfect getaway. Maine is also wonderful in the autumn where it’s quieter, the prices come down a bit and the ocean is surrounded by evergreens and vibrant fall foliage.

We have a wonderful New England, Canada, and Adirondack Autumn travel show on Joie de Vivre TV network which is based in Paris, France, more on that below in this magazine issue. We also have a more condensed Kennebunkport, Maine Sunday Guide from 2023 as well on our website.

Maine is the only place I go where my heart actually aches when we leave and I long to return each year. I have traveled the world and I love every place I go to and I often say they are all my “favorites” but Maine is extraordinary. Read below to see which restaurant received food and wine 2024 best lobster roll award in America and we couldn’t agree more. Read our tips on how to throw a party on your travels, where to find the best flowers in town, our favorite coffee shops, and the most charming little beach where we love to walk our dog Ernie.

Our favorite “Late Summer Early Fall Fashion” beauty products, local out and about day trips, recipes and favorite books are all here, in this month’s Sunday Guides!

Travel to Newport, Rhode Island in this month’s Sunday Guides - summer beauty, products, fashion, recipes, hotels, and our favorite lobster roll. Enjoy a beautiful vacation on the Atlantic Ocean in gorgeous New England.

Summers in Newport Rhode Island evoke memories of the years gone by Gilded Age. From the mansions often referred to as “cottages” along the famed Cliff Walk, to the charming Bowen’s Wharf, it is filled with beautiful historic moments. The quintessential lobster rolls are plentiful, and we listed our favorites in this issue. What sets Newport apart from other iconic New England locations is its opulent mansions, complete with marble, ornate moldings, and enough gold to gild more than a few lilies! There is an array of hotel options, with stunning architecture and scenic views at every turn. Newport has that old world quintessential style, a European exuberance mixed with classic preppy New England style. In this issue, we travel through time into the Gilded Age to the Breakers Mansion on Cliff Walk. You must see it in person to believe it. We dined at four restaurants while on our getaway, varying from a quick coffee and pastry breakfast spot overlooking the bay, off-the-beaten-path lobster rolls, and the most scenic and tasty places to eat in town. Visiting an area this beautiful calls for elevated fashion looks without sacrificing comfort, sun-kissed skin, pretty lipgloss, and a spritz of a favorite summer fragrance. We include our “Out And About With Paris House” feature in each issue for other points of interest. Through appointment only, we custom design flowers, fashion photoshoots, and events for our clients. We style around the world in addition to our two locations: our idyllic countryside gardens and our urban studio located only 20 minutes outside New York City. Our favorite recipes are also is this month’s issue! When it’s too hot to cook, get grilling with our grilled shrimp brushed in a homemade pesto. We have it all here in this beautiful Sunday Guides.

Niagara On The Lake, Canada

3 minute read:

Niagara On The Lake (NOTL) is a delightful quaint town located only minutes from Niagara Falls in the Province of Ontario. From the moment you enter idyllic NOTL you will feel as though you stepped back in time. Enjoy scenic drives passing by vineyards, historic homes, old fashioned country farm stands, and flowers everywhere! If you go during the summer months stock up on fresh cherries, the best pies & turnovers; they are delicious!

Watch the sailboats pass you as you dine outdoors at Queens Landing. Then grab an Aperol Spritz in Pillar and Post’s gorgeous garden. A gentle breeze from Lake Ontario provides a lovely respite from the summer heat. Autumn is another favorite time of ours to visit. Walk along paths by the banks of the river and enjoy a picnic lunch by the gazebo. In Queens Royal Park, streets are filled with lush trees, horse drawn carriage tours, and vibrant flowers. There is something beautiful at every glance and around every corner.

There is a British feel to the charming shops lining Queen and King Street, surrounded by 19th century architecture, pubs, and delightful bakeries. Our favorite is the Niagara Home Bakery. Don’t miss their delicious cinnamon buns, coffee, linzer tarts, and other savory items. Stroll through the Heritage District and enjoy shopping, dining, and browse unique shops to find that special gift for a loved one, or perhaps treat yourself! There are bed-and-breakfasts, cozy inns: many with fireplaces, thermal spas, outdoor and indoor pools and fine dining.

For the active traveler, you will delight in the bike paths, swimming pools, yoga classes, and golf courses. Play a round on the oldest operating golf course in North America, Niagara-On-The-Lake Golf Club, then grab a colorful Adirondack chair, and sit by the water enjoying a cocktail, dinner, and watching unforgettable gorgeous sunsets.

In this article we explore a drive through the Finger Lakes up to Niagara On The Lakes, Canada. A quaint small town with fabulous vineyards, picturesque Lake Ontario, a gorgeous golf course, and well appointed hotels. More on the finger lakes here: https://theparishouse.com/blog-1/canada-wine

Depending on your route you will drive by the Canadian Falls, the famous Flower Clock and the Botanical Gardens. Niagara Parks does an incredible job of maintaining everything impeccably. There are trolleys and transportation to get you everywhere effortlessly. We recommend three nights and four days to see the highlights.

What To See and Do

Queens Royal Park features trails and a gazebo that are meticulously cared for and a great pride of the community. Enjoy dinner and theatrics at Shaws Theater on Queen Street. Some of our favorite vineyards include Ice Wine, Ravine, Two Sisters, and Pellars. Sights and adventures await at Niagara Falls, The Flower Clock, Botanical Gardens, Gorge, & Butterfly Conservatory.

Nearby Niagara Falls there is something for everyone, from the adventurous to the foodie to the photographer! There are zip lines over the falls, tours, and more. There are easy & affordable modes of transportation to get you everywhere.

Where to Stay? We recommend Pillar and Post, a well appointed hotel with many amenities. Queens Landing offers elegant decor, waterside dining, trolley pickups, and complimentary shuttles for guests. For a chic contemporary vibe with courtyard dining try 124 Hotel and Spa. There are also inns by the golf course, overlooking the lake and wine trail like Oban Inn.

Inspired by Claude Monet’s garden in Giverny, France. Take note of the underplanting of nasturtium flowers. Enjoy a stroll through acres of immaculately landscaped gardens. Walk over the bridge to admire the water Lillies and enjoy an aperol spritz from the nearby garden cafe.

Hotel Spotlight: Pillar and Post & Queens Landing

We have stayed many times at both Queens Landing & Pillar and Post. The service is wonderful. Pillar and Post has both indoor and outdoor pools, thermal spa, poolside cafe and fine dining. Enjoy complimentary shuttle service into town and their sister properties. The hotel will be more than happy to arrange your dinner at their hotel or perhaps outside on the patio overlooking the water at Queens Landing just moments up the road. They also have door to door service on the trolley, which is a great way to explore and do the wine trail! The hotel is about 10-15 minutes into town and a quick shuttle ride to the lake.
