About the Paris House
Editor’s Letter
I begin writing our editor's letter at 30,000 feet in the sky as Spring's cherry blossoms, daffodils, and NYC fade in the distance below. We are off on a business and pleasure adventure. I am visiting and writing about two unique hotels in Cancun, Riviera Maya and Isla Mujeres, each with their own distinct charm and allure, which we will feature in an upcoming issue.
Step into the pages of our Sunday Guides Spring issue and be transported around the world to lands both near and far. In this issue, we are immersed in a storybook garden, larger than life and beyond one's wildest dreams, The Dubai Miracle Garden, a breathtaking oasis of color and beauty.
Explore Barbados through our photos and highlights and be inspired to book a trip or revisit this stunning island. We shared our must-go-to restaurants and more!
We are excited to be in the garden surrounded by spring flowers, cherry blossoms, lilacs, and peonies, which perfume the air. In this issue, we have included the link to our extensive outline of the Beginners Guide to Planting a Rose Garden.
Paris House, a beautiful event space in a garden on five idyllic acres, has hosted multiple photoshoots this Spring, including Motherhood shoots, fashion and styling for a company's brand, and a Marie Antoinette photo shoot. Our location is very popular, along with our Hillside studio, an urban space located 20 minutes from NYC. You can book our spaces for your next event through us directly or through our Peerspace listing.
Paris House Beauty has launched, and it's beautiful! This perfume, inspired by our travels around the world, is a celebration of our love for touring flower gardens both near and far. All the details are in this issue. We have an exciting fashion shoot at the Mansion in May, traveling to more stunning destinations and delicious recipes.
We hope Spring's revival of the gardens and vibrant sunshine inspire you to throw a party, take a day trip, or plan something lovely.

Barbados
Barbados, an island surrounded by the Caribbean Sea, is a treasure trove of crystal clear waters, delicious cuisine, water sports, lush tropical gardens, and history. The kind people who call this place home will enchant you with their warmth, leaving you captivated by this stunning island. With its rich, storied history, breathtaking views from every corner, vibrant floral landscapes, and the beautiful turquoise Caribbean waters, Barbados is a unique gem that will leave you longing to return.
We have outlined our favorite activities in one of our favorite places worldwide.
Cobblers Cove
Cobblers Cove, an intimate family-owned hotel nestled on the serene west coast, is a haven of luxury and relaxation. Indulge in local cuisine prepared with the finest ingredients, including a delightful daily high tea where monkeys swing by from tree to tree as you unwind on the veranda with your tea. The attentive staff will arrange your water sports, turtle swims, picnics on crystal clear waters, or a visit to the exquisite spa for a day of pampering. The rooms and suites, adorned in island decor, are caressed by calming sea breezes and surrounded by lush tropical gardens. If you seek tranquility and rejuvenation, Cobblers Cove is your perfect retreat; relax in a cozy lounge, dive into a good book, and savor a delicious cocktail and lunch by the pool and the sea.
Animal Flower Cave
The Animal Flower Cave is a must-visit while in Barbados. This natural wonder, with its rugged cliffs and spectacular cave below, showcases the unique beauty of Barbados. The cave is named after the sea anemones that can be found in its pools, adding to its allure. Visitors can swim, dine, and relax in paradise, surrounded by the natural beauty of the island.
Animal Flower Cave Restaurant
Dine on a cliff overlooking the crystal clear sea below. Sip on cocktails or local beer while watching the waves crash on the rocks below; the local Caribbean cuisine was one of our favorite meals in Barbados. The maui maui plantain tacos are outstanding, and of course, the key lime tart is topped with a dollop of fresh whipped cream.
Dining, The Cliff
The Cliff, with its innovative cuisine, stunning interiors, and breathtaking views, is a place that will leave you dazzled. The sunset here is outstanding, a sight that will fill you with awe and amazement.
Tropical Cocktails
The Fishpot
The Fishpot is where the locals and those in the know go. It is our favorite and delicious. The cocktails and sunset are not to be missed. The cuisine’s fresh catch of the day and menu are spectacular. The atmosphere is casual yet feels upscale, as if you are swept away to paradise—which, of course, you are.
Hunte’s Gardens
Stroll through idyllic gardens surrounded by towering palm trees that can be seen on different levels in the spacious, easy-to-navigate garden. Relax at various spots on benches to take in all the beauty. Be sure to stop for refreshments and meet the owner, Anthony Hunte; he will captivate you with his stories and vivid imagination of tales. Enjoy rum punch, tea, coffee, and various cakes and pastries.
St Nicholas Abbey and Steam Railway
Built in 1658, the Heritage Railway will take you through the grounds with ease, and historical stops are visited along the way. Plan a rum tasting, lunch, garden tours, and more
Looking for nightlife, the purple bamboo along with many other hotspots will have you dancing the night away!
Mr. Andrew Gill is the go-to concierge tour guide and private taxi service on the island. He and his associates will take you everywhere you wish and plan the must-see visits while you are in Barbados.

Paris House Beauty
Paris House Beauty is a luxury brand born from a love of visiting flower gardens worldwide, travel adventures, and our unwavering passion for beauty. Our inspiration for this one-of-a-kind luxury beauty and fragrance line comes from the captivating scents of the exotic flowers we encountered on our journeys. Working closely with a globally recognized perfumer, we crafted a scent that is fresh, pretty, and captivating. Exuberant clementine and mandarin top notes mingle with key heart notes of sweet orange, lily, and orange flower, followed by sensual base notes of jasmine, coconut, peach, and musk. Paris House Beauty is a fragrance that evokes the essence of faraway lands and our enchanting home gardens. Much love and time went into creating this bespoke beauty and perfume line. Paris House Beauty is available on our website and in select boutiques.
Our Eau de Parfum and beauty line is a unique blend of top notes of clementine, mandarin, sweet orange, coconut, orange flower, and lily, combined with base notes of jasmine, coconut, peach, and musk. This stunning, one-of-a-kind fragrance is sure to captivate your senses and leave a lasting impression.

Sitting Down with Perfumer Lisa Gomez
Paris House is excited about our new fragrance created in collaboration with CUSTOMPARFUMS. CUSTOMPARFUMS is a small perfumery that creates custom luxury fragrances for individuals. CUSTOMPARFUMS also sells a limited number of fragrances in select boutiques and creates fragrance gifts for events (e.g., weddings.).
CUSTOMPARFUMS’ owner and Perfumer is Lisa Gomez. Lisa is an adherent to classic French perfumery methods. She is globally recognized and was nominated in 2024 and 2023 for the International Perfume Foundation’s New Luxury Awards! She has several years of training in the fragrance and cosmetics industry including the Institute for Art and Olfaction and attending the Grasse Institute of Perfumery in Grasse, France. Lisa also lectures and teaches perfumery.
Paris House interviewed Lisa recently:
About you:
How did you get into the perfume industry? I have always loved fragrance. I wrote my college thesis on the fragrance and cosmetics industries, and my first professional job was in retail, managing sales of perfumes and cosmetics for a large department chain. I moved away from fragrance for many years but returned in 2022, as perfumery is my first love.
What was the first fine fragrance you purchased? Halston! I bought it during my senior year of high school. I still remember how sophisticated it made me feel when I wore it.
Where is your favorite place to travel? France!! I am a Francophile and love the culture, the scenery, the food, and the history. I have been to France more times than I can count and it is still my number one travel destination.
What do you love most about living in Palm Springs, CA? Palm Springs is a vibrant and diverse city and I love that there is always something fun to do. We have a world class culture, exemplified by the Palm Springs Art Museum, and a great food scene, with Low Desert being my favorite restaurant. And you can easily bike almost the entire city.
Do you have an interesting party trick or any hidden talents? I love to cook. At one point, I considered going to cooking school. I think this is also why I am a good perfumer as the sense of smell is so closely tied to the sense of taste.
About your brand:
Describe your brand in one sentence. We create custom, one-of-a-kind, handcrafted fine fragrances for individual clients.
What is unique about your brand? Few companies can offer the chance for someone to own their very own fragrance, created just for them and not just a mass-customized product. I work with only a few clients at any time and create something unique for each. I retain the final formulas for individual clients so no one else will own their fragrance. And I do it at a very affordable fee.
Where does the name of your brand come from? I wanted a self-explanatory name, so I chose “CUSTOMPARFUMS.”
How does living in the desert influence your perfumes? The weather is fantastic and conducive to living outside most of the year. This allows me to constantly take in a wide variety of natural scents, especially during the spring blooming season. The scenery is unbelievable, and I find that I am constantly experiencing new views and vistas, which in turn inspire me to create complementary scents.
Who are your perfumes for? My fragrances are for clients who want to own a custom fragrance that is as unique as they are.
If someone wanted to try your fragrances, what would you recommend? I sell very little retail because custom fragrances are personal and not mass-produced. If folks would like to understand and experience the quality of my work, they can email me at CUSTOMPARFUMS@gmail.com, and I will send them some samples.
For more information on CUSTOMPARFUMS, you can visit its website: www.CUSTOMPARFUMS.com. You can follow them on Instagram: @CUSTOMPARFUMS.

Dubai Miracle Garden

The Emirates A380 airbus, one of the world's most beloved jets, boasts the world's largest flower installation.
The Teddy Bear garden, with its unique charm and relaxing gardens, is a delightful spot that will surely captivate both young children and adults.
Smurfs Village entices both children and children at heart in a village of mushroom homes and blue smurfs.
Lake Park is where flowers, water, and magical creatures come together in a world of enchantment.
The Floral Clock, a 15-metre masterpiece made from fresh flowers and real plants, is a stunning way to tell time. Its beauty, designed by Miracle Garden landscapers, is sure to leave you in awe.
Heart Tunnel
The Heart Tunnel, a perfect spot to capture a moment with your loved ones, will surely fill you with excitement and joy
Floral Castle
Walking through the Flower Castle gardens evokes a "Disney" fairytale ambiance, complete with a floral-covered castle and spires overlooking the colorful gardens.
Umbrella Tunnel
Stroll through a tunnel of upside-down umbrellas in a creative space conceptualized for beauty and the perfect spot to sit and enjoy a coffee at a table in the shade.

In addition to the above garden areas we featured, we recommend purchasing the skip-the-line ticket and booking online beforehand when possible. The Paris House Book Club
The Wedding People, Alison Espach
Looking for a book that's as breezy as a summer day? 'The Wedding People' by Alison Espach is a delightful, fun read that's perfect for a relaxing beach getaway. Its light and easy narrative will keep you entertained without weighing you down.
Swans of Harlem, Karen Valby
I loved this book and felt so many emotions while writing a review. First of all, how did I not know the story of the Swans of Harlem, especially as a longtime patron of ballet and the arts? I feel grateful to have found and read Karen Valby's meticulously researched and written book on The Harlem Theater of Dance, founded by Arthur Mitchell in the 1960s, and the five first black ballerinas who danced there.
Raising Hare, Chloe Dalton
'Raising Hare' by Chloe Dalton is a book that's been on my radar for a while now. It's waiting patiently by my bedside, and I can't wait to dive into its pages. The anticipation is real!
Care and Feeding, Laurie Woolever
Laurie's writing and storytelling have readers turning pages at lightning speed. Her memoir is funny, neurotic, and a truthful account of the restaurant and food business, sparing no one and with no apologies and seemingly no regrets. This book is fascinating, from substance abuse to fending off the wandering hands and lasciviousness of Mario Batali to her close working friendship with Anthony Bourdain.
The Puritans
Don't dismiss 'The Puritans' as a dry historical read just yet! At only 100 pages, it's a quick and insightful journey through the history of the Church of England, the Puritans, and the start of America. You might be surprised at how engaging it is, and you'll definitely impress your friends at the next cocktail party with your newfound historical knowledge.
The Book Club Dinner Party
What To Watch
Babygirl starring Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickenson
There is a lot to unpack here; beginning with this romantic drama, it did not land the way I had hoped. I was left with a lot of unanswered questions. I am a huge fan of Nicole Kidman; she went all in, as usual. Dismissing all the nonsense of Women over 50's sexuality showed us that women want what they want, and she wanted her 20-something gorgeous, cocky, mysterious intern. What I loved about this movie, besides the fact that Harrison Dickenson is HOT, and the rave scene was even HOTTER, was the beautiful cinematography and Nicole's uninhibited, sexual, and maternal performance. I was left wanting to know more about her intern and would have liked to have seen more of the conversions as they navigated through this dangerous liaison.
Anora
After watching Anora, I could understand why it swept the Oscars. The acting was truly exceptional. This film may not be suitable for everyone, especially children, but it offers a raw and realistic portrayal of life as an escort. It's not a typical Cinderella Story or Pretty Woman ending, but it's a deeply moving and thought-provoking journey. I don't want to give too much away, but I can promise you that it's a film that will stay with you long after the credits roll.
The White Lotus
The White Lotus is a show that's worth watching for the fashion alone. But it's the layered story and dynamic characters that truly make it a must-see. It's wild, no doubt, but it's also poignant, sad, and fun. If you're looking for a show that will keep you on the edge of your seat, The White Lotus is it.
The Durells in Corfu
All of the above are indeed a bit 'scandalous' due to their explicit subject matter. If that's not for you, PBS has wonderful shows that are a bit more mainstream. We highly recommend The Durells if you have not already watched it. The series has gorgeous settings overlooking the Ionian Sea, which transported us back to Corfu, one of our favorite islands in Greece. It's lovely.
Audiobooks
Our team enjoys listening to audiobooks in Spanish, Italian, and French. It's a great way to learn while stuck in traffic!
People We Meet Along the Way
In our Sunday Guides series “People We Meet Along The Way,” I recently met this adorable woman in Rhodes, Greece. Although we could not communicate with words due to a language barrier, she and I communicated with smiles and hugs each morning as I passed on an adventure. I showed her my camera and iPhone, her eyes lighting up with curiosity and wonder. She walked over to her stove – a spot she loves and finds pride and joy in and posed beautifully for me there. Her dress, along with all the interior colors, was perfect! Traveling solo and in tiny, intimate groups allows for a much deeper connection to the people who live where I’m traveling to, and that’s why I rarely go on group trips. I prefer to travel deeper, immersed in a culture where even a language barrier speaks more beautifully and profoundly than words can.
